UPDATE: C-123 “Ponderous Polly” – Restoration Progressing & Photos!

Polly1WARBIRD RADIO – Robert Yanacsek from the Warriors & Warbirds Museum will join Matt Jolley this Tuesday  evening during Warbird Radio LIVE!  Robert says he’ll have a full update on their new C-123 “Ponderous Polly”.  During a quick phone interview with Warbird Radio, Yanacsek says all of the flight control surfaces have now been removed for restoration and recovering.

During Hurricane Irene “Ponderous Polly” sustained wind damage to her rudder and the structural repairs are underway.  Yanacsek also says the tedious task of lubricating all of the flight control cables has begun.  He added that during this initial restoration process, a thorough inspection of every system is being carried out, as they prepare “Polly” for her first flight in several years.

The museum plans to have “Ponderous Polly” flying before their air show this coming November 2015.  For a complete update be sure and tune in to Warbird Radio LIVE! – this Tuesday evening at 8pm (EASTERN).

Warriors & Warbirds Museum Saves Vietnam Cargo Plane – Soon To Fly!

C-123K-PollyWARBIRD RADIO – Congratulations to our friends at the Warriors & Warbirds museum in Monroe, North Carolina.  Warriors & Warbirds recently acquired a rare Fairchild C-123K Provider.  According to a recent statement “Warriors & Warbirds is pleased to officially introduce our newest member of the fleet. The Ponderous Polly C-123K Provider.”

The Provider was first designed as an assault glider for the United States Air Force and later developed into a powered multi-role transport platform.  Many C-123’s were scrapped after service in the Vietnam War due to one of their primary missions, spraying Agent Orange defoliant.  Warriors & Warbirds hopes to have their C-123K back in Monroe, North Carolina for their annual air show this November.
