Welcome to the worlds first radio station devoted to military aviation. It’s our goal to preserve the stories and history of the brave men and women who flew these airplanes… and still do. Across the globe warbird enthusiasts are tirelessly working to save examples of these historic airplanes; however, the survival of the stories from those who flew them are not guaranteed. That’s where Warbird Radio steps in.
From the dawn of military aviation to our modern warriors, Warbird Radio will keep you briefed on the latest happenings. We’ll be following restoration projects world wide and the latest in cutting-edge military aviation technology. We’re also excited to bring you the latest from the scale modeling world! Let’s face it… no matter the size, a warbird is a warbird. The stories these airplanes tell are like no other and we can’t wait to bring them to you.
Just click the Listen Live link on the right side of page. Thanks for listening.

Interesting hearing the guest's comments comparing legacy Hornets to Super Hornets. Living here in St. Louis (with the F/A-18 series is built), we have quite a bit of interest in how well this aircraft is received.

We all know that flight demos at airshows are an important recruiting tool. Unforltunately, the Air Force announced last year that they are eliminating some of thier flight demo teams and scaling back the rest of thier flight demonstrations during airshows. What are the Navy's plans for thier flight demos and static displays for the next few years? Should we expect the Navy to do what the Air Force did?

What's your opinion of Revell's preferred partners distribution policy. Are all Hobbytowns in that program? My local Hobbytown got the new PV-1 Venturas before they were available online.

I am listening to the podcast now. Seems like too much other stuff going on at night to listen live. I like the idea to replace the smaller plastic parts with metal, like landing gear or antennas. I have brokes so many small parts off finished kits while painting or weathering. Got to work on my soldering techniques now.

I had never heard of this company but it sounds like a huge winner. Nice to see a company embrace modeling and make products along with their regular line of products just for modelers. Thanks to Albion for the great show as well. Very informative.

I'll definitely keep them in mind when looking for some detailing parts.

Not sure if I'll be able to word this properly but here goes... In today's economy when money is tight and everyone seems to be on a budget how does a local hobby shop compete with online sellers? I have a local shop and very rarely buy any kits there because their prices are outrageous. I do get all my supplies and such though as I can walk in and out with what I need. Is it a sign of the times that most all stores should have an online presence as well or are the days of Ma and Pa hobby stores becoming a thing of the past? At least for plastic model kits I know the local store does have a strong following in RC and trains but I'd like to see better prices on the plastic kits. Are the distributors of these kits gouging the local stores to where they have to charge a higher amount to make their ends meet? I just don't understand why an online store could be so much cheaper. They still have to pay rent for a warehouse or location and usually need at least a couple employees to move product.

That was more than 1 question but just some things on my mind.

Thanks for the great show.

Also thanks to Albion alloys for supporting the Plastic Scale Modeling Hour . I have used K&S products but had found it to be a bit too large for my chosen scale (1/48). I will have a look for the Albion products for my current and next projects.

Cheers

My resolutions: Finish all of the started projects languishing on my workbench. In addition, I'd like to start and finish six kits over the year. I'd also like to have one kit finished to a high enough (personal) standard to show at the IPMS nationals in August.

I did not finish a single model in 2011. So, my primary resolution is to finish a couple of kits in 2012. My secondary resolution is to finally purge my collection of the kits I will never build and the reference books I no longer need.

Mark, I pour my excess back into the jar also. I also clean my airbrush every time I change colors and end an airbrushing session.

On a side note, I apparently am not able to listen to Warbird Radio with my Nook tablet. Thats too bad since myblaptop is in the shop.

I think a radio program about scale modeling is brilliant ! Explain to me what the benefits of using your airbrush over leading brands and even generic airbrushes. I build mostly 1/48 German WWI aircraft and 1/72 scale armor. I need an airbrush that can give me controlable fine lines for the armor and clean pattern for the aircraft. I look forward to hearing you speak Greg. Don`t be a stranger.....

I've always been curious what the proper recommended way to clean an internal mix airbrush is, both between colors and at the end of a spraying session. Any pro tips or products to make this easier?

Also, what should the normal air pressure ranges be for spraying enamel and acrylic?

When it works, airbrushing is a delight, but it's often seems as if there is a great deal of alchemy involved in getting it right, which is frustrating for a beginner like myself.

I'm looking forward to this evening's segment. One of our local IPMS members swears by his Grex with the pistol trigger. I've been a Badger guy for 40 years and I can understand the attraction. The only reason I don't have arthritis in my index figure is I don't finish enough models!

I used an Aztek for several years and switched to a Badger Krome when they first came out. I unfortunately have arthritis in both hands from "service related" injuries (32 years in the Army & Air Force) and have been looking at the Grex. I have been unable to find a dealer in the Cleveland area and am reticent to buy a new brush (at this price point) without the aid of a demonstration. Where is the closest dealer?

@sapguy says : For the right mixture of airbrushpaint you can use a tisssue and a toothstick. Put your mixture on the stick and than let it run on the tissue. If you have the same effect like you would do this with blood than your mixture is right. If you want do this mathematical : 50/50 mixture runs fine

My question is: I am planning to do some 1/72 scale model planes. Presently been working on 1/35 scale. I am using a Badger airbrush with a Medium tip. Should I switch to the fine tip when airbrushing a smaller scale. Thanks folks.

Hawkeye, I have enjoy listening to your first 4 episodes.

I have been looking about getting a new gravity feed airbrush. Right now I am leaning towards either a Badger Patriot or Krome, so I will be interested in listening and learning about a Grex airbrush.

My biggest problem with a regular airbrush is the somewhat awkward way you have to hold it and push the trigger down. I can see where a Grex would be much more comfortable.

I am curious how the trigger works on these dual action airbrushes compaired to a regular one.

So here's my question for the guest. How do you know when your paint mixture is properly diluted? I know that it's supposed to be the consistency of milk... but is there another visual way to determine that the paint is properly diluted?

Great shows Hawkeye! You have got me started back in plastic models after a long hiatus. My son and I are building a Star Wars AT-AT Walker and I just received a 1:48 Trumpeter Wyrven and 1:72 PBY-5A Catalina "Black Cat" for Christmas! I smell the sweet aroma of plastic model cement in the air this New Year! Keep bringing the great guests (and contests) to the show. I really am enjoying them!

I'd love to try one of the TG3 airbrushes. I've got carpal tunnel syndrome and prolonged use of a conventional airbrush aggravates the condition. I'm thinking that the pistol grip would work a lot better for those long sessions at the bench.

Can't wait for the next episode! I met Ray from Grex in SoCal at one of the AMPS Chapter meetings and also at OrangeCon. I got to try the Grex airbrush and loved it! Due to hard times I still haven't had the chance to pick one up. I am stuck manhandling my old Badger. This site is a great idea Hawkeye! Keep it up!

Thanks for having Ed Rasimus on your show. I've read both of Ed's books and I highly recommend them. When building model planes it's sometimes easy to obsess over small details while missing the big picture about why these planes existed and what kind of men flew them. Ed's books provide a much needed historical perspective from someone who was actually there in Vietnam putting his life on the line.

Ed: thank you for your service to our country!

Hi "Hawkeye"!
I started listening to your show last week and was very impressed with the content. I am a 67 year old plastic modeler (Luftwaffe only) and started "re-modeling" about two years ago. It has been a very humbling experience, as new "challenges" come up in the building and painting process. My most current "challenge" is attempting to construct a fuselage belly antenna, something like this - I___i___i i___i___i on the belly of a He115 and Ju88A and Ju88G aircraft. I built a jig to hold the vertical pieces made of sprew and then I ATTEMPTED to glue the horizontal pieces (2) with Testors regular tube glue. This did NOT work. Would super glue gel be easier and work better? The jig works well, but not the glue. HELP!!!

One understands that life is expensive, but we require cash for different stuff and not every man earns enough cash. Thus to get some personal loans and just bank loan would be a right way out.

Loved that interview with Mr. Stachler, and looking forward to the full show. Interviews like this and an Airman's Story are great, and will be valuable insights into history.

I flew into Traverse City, Michigan for the last reunion of the 490 BG, Burma Bridge Busters a month ago. We flew up in the Yankee Warrior B-25D of the Yankee Air Museum. When we taxied up to the hanger where the reunion was taking place, several of the WW2 vets in attendance were wiping tears from their eyes. What a moving experience to be a part of! They presented each one of us with an honorary 490th Patch that I have been honored to have sewn on my flight suit. 1500 of our WW2 vets are dying each day. If you know of one, thank them for their service before it's too late. God bless them all.
