The Wings Over New Zealand LIVE Show – Episode 21

WARBIRD RADIO – On this episode of the Wings Over New Zealand LIVE Show co-hosts Dave Homewood and Grant McHerron speak with Ed Taylor, the General Manager of the Warbirds Over Wanaka Community Trust. As many will know Warbirds Over Wanaka is one of New Zealand’s and the Southern Hemisphere’s premiere airshows, and the 30th Anniversary Airshow is coming up in three weeks time over Easter. Ed talks about the background and history of the airshow, his role leading the organisation that puts the airshow together, and highlights of what people can expect to see this year, such as the ‘Dunkirk’ Buchon, the USAF F-16 team, the Yak 3’s, Mustangs, Spitfire, and much more.

Dave and Grant also chat afterwards about recent and current happenings on the warbird scene ‘downunder’ in New Zealand and Australia; including Dave’s report from the Tiger Moth Club of New Zealand Rally, the WONZ Forum Meet at Classic Flyers Museum, and a trip this week to Ardmore to visit Pioneer Aero and Avspecs. And Grant gives a preview of several airshows coming up in Australia.

The Wings Over New Zealand Show – deHavilland Hornet Restorer Corin McCrae – Episode 20

WARBIRD RADIO – Dave Homewood and Grant McHerron are back with a new broadcast.  The guys are joined this month by deHavilland Hornet restorer Corin McCrae.  In this episode of The Wings Over New Zealand Live Show, Dave and Grant return after a long break, and as well as a round up of news and happenings from New Zealand and Australia, Dave also talks with guest Corin McCrae of Aerowood.  Corin’s business, Aerowood, is all about crafting the wooden parts required to rebuild or repair classic wooden aeroplanes. Unlike many companies rebuilding wooden aeroplanes however Aerowood uses computer CAD technology and a CNC automated cutting machine.  Personally Corin has created wooden parts for all sorts of projects from Tiger Moths to SE5a’s. But most famously Corin has been involved in rebuilding the wooden structure of several de Havilland Mosquitoes as flying projects. Two of them now flying in the USA – KA114 with Jerry Yagen’s Military Aircraft Museum, and TV959 with Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection. The third flying Mosquito project, Rod Lewis’s PZ474, should hopefully fly sometime in 2018.  And Aerowood has another exciting upcoming project, working with Pioneer Aero Restorations Ltd of Ardmore, and that is the de Havilland Sea Hornet TT193 project that is planned to be restored to fly too. He talks about all these projects and more.

SHOWTIME is 9pm ET / Tuesday / January 30th 2018 / Podcast will follow
