WARBIRD RADIO – Tim Chopp founder of the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation joins Matt Jolley with a full report on their C-97’s recent post restoration flight.  On November 7th 2017 the Angel of Deliverance took flight after a lengthy restoration with Tim Chopp and his crew.  Tim’s organization is no stranger to operating large four engine aircraft.  Since 1988 the foundation has owned the Spirit of Freedom C-54 and they’ve told the story of the Berlin Air Lift to countless people.   Matt also welcomes International Council of Air Shows President John Cudahy with news on the airspace privatization efforts underway in Washington.  This proposed legislation would dramatically effect the air show industry in the USA and subsequently the operation of vintage military aircraft.  Hear both stories tonight (11/14/17) starting at 8pm ET.  To join the conversation just use the contact information posted below. A special thank you to photographer Corey J. Beitler for allowing us to use his image of the C-97.   LIVE Broadcast begins at 8pm 11/14/17 – Podcast will immediately follow. A Letter From Matt Jolley – Thanks For Listening!

WARBIRD RADIO – Since 2009 we’ve told the stories of our Airmen past and present.  Along the way we’ve made lots of friends, we’ve saved countless stories and we’ve even managed to win a few awards.  As summer settles in and the heat rises, we’re happy to announce that the outside temperature of our new studio will also be significantly warmer for the next two years.   In keeping with our mission we’ll be focusing the next two years on telling the stories from the current fight against terrorism.  We’ll be broadcasting from an undisclosed location within Southwest Asia to better tell these stories. The next two years mark the first years Airmen born post 9/11 will be arriving in theater and serving in the war they’ve lived with their entire life.  As usual, our stories will focus on the people and their experience.  We’re excited to announce this major change but rest assured our programming will stay balanced with vintage military aircraft news, air shows and the same great content you’ve become accustom to since 2009.   We feel strongly that these modern stories need some focus and we’re really excited about the opportunity to tell them. The next major change is that we’re bringing back “real” music between shows.  Starting this fall, you’ll hear your favorite country, rock, blues and vintage music in between our regular Warbird Radio shows.  These changes will take effect as soon as our broadcasting equipment reaches our new studio and we’re able to set it up. A heartfelt and sincere thank you for all the years of listening and support.  Now, stay tuned for an incredible adventure.  Matt Jolley WarbirdRadio.com Image courtesy of the USAF  Read More →

From The Archive – Bill Coleman’s D-Day Experience

WARBIRD RADIO – In 2007 my wife and I (along with a group of friends) went to Dresden, Germany with WWII “D-Day” paratrooper Bill Coleman.  The last time Bill Coleman was in Dresden was during the fire bombings of WWII when he was held prisoner inside a church and left for dead.  After surviving the attacks his captors put him to work stacking bodies, the smells were forever burned into his memory.  During our trip Bill sat down for an interview with me and shared his experience during D-Day, what it was like being captured and eventually escaping towards the end of the war. A few years after our visit to Dresden I asked Bill to come on Warbird Radio and share some additional thoughts.  My wife joined me during our conversation and the resulting interview is what you’ll hear below.  This is the raw tape, un-edited – his story, his words.  We lost Bill several years ago and I think about him every Veterans Day and especially June 6th.  Let’s never forget… Matt Jolley WarbirdRadio.com   http://media.blubrry.com/warbirdradio/p/www.warbirdradio.com/wp-content/PodcastUploadFolder/FromTheArchive-BillColeman.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadSubscribe: Android | RSS Read More →
