WARBIRD RADIO – On this episode of Warbird Radio Presents we surprise a WWII aviator with a flight in his former airplane. Ralph Maloof flew a variety of aircraft during the war but the P-51 was always a standout. Thanks to Cowden Ward Junior and Freedom Flyers, Mr. Maloof once again took flight in the mighty Mustang.
Mr. Maloof’s story is one for the history books. He’s been a life long inventor and even in his 90’s he continues to work in aviation and mentoring the next generation.

WARBIRD RADIO – When Joe Edwards comes on the show the headline is always hard to write. Joe’s a former US Naval Aviator, graduate of Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), US Navy Test Pilot School, NASA Space Shuttle Commander and most recently he’s become the only Astronaut air show performer in the world.
Joe loves to fly and air shows give him a chance to share aviation and interact with fellow aviators from all over the world. His vintage US Navy T-28 routine is low, fast and awesome. During this episode we’ll rewind to one of Joe’s most noteworthy flights in the F-14 (see the picture above). It’s hard enough to land on an aircraft carrier, just imagine doing it without a canopy and being blind in one eye. It’s a story you don’t want to miss.

WARBIRD RADIO – Stew Dawson joins Matt Jolley with details on his flight in “Bataan” the VC-121A recently purchased by Lewis Air Legends. According to the Planes of Fame (POF) air museum, this VC-121A was the personal aircraft of General Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander Allied Powers, during the Korean War.
Sources at POF say “Bataan” will eventually travel on the air show circuit. The Planes of Fame air museum acquired the aircraft over 20 years ago and operated it for a short time before putting it on display at their Valle, AZ location. According to POF’s website, the sale of “Bataan” will help advance their mission of preserving aviation history, inspiring interest in aviation, educating the public and honoring aviation pioneers and veterans.
Matt will also check in with T-33 air show pilot Greg Colyer and find out what’s in store for Ace Maker Air Shows in 2016. Greg operates two T-33’s across the United States and annually performers at over 20 aerial events. His dynamic routine displays the full flight envelope of the T-33 and is one of the most aggressive T-33 demonstrations ever flown.
Tune in and join the conversation this Tuesday (1/19/16) at 8pm ET. As always, your calls and comments are welcome.
