Go Behind The Scenes At The National Naval Aviation Museum – RESTORATION TOUR!
WARBIRD RADIO – Go behind the scenes and tour the Aircraft Restoration Department at one of the most prestigious aviation museums in the world: The National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida. According to the museum’s website “The National Naval Aviation Museum is the world’s largest Naval Aviation museum and one of the most-visited museums in the state of Florida. These historic and one-of-a-kind aircraft are displayed both inside the Museum’s nearly 300,000 square feet of exhibit space and outside on its 37-acre grounds.”
On a recent tour with aviation artist, author and former Centennial of United States Naval Aviation – Executive Director CAPT Richard Dann (USNR) WARBIRD RADIO.COM was able to get up close and personal with some of the US Navy’s most treasured restoration projects. Among the artifacts currently under restoration: Birdcage Corsair, Hellcat, SBD and waiting in the storage lot was the SB2-C.
The craftsmanship and care the US Navy is putting into each of these aircraft is staggering. Be sure and notice the canopy from the Corsair. Only one canopypane is new. The rest have been hand polished to preserve it’s originality and historic integrity. For more information on the National Naval Aviation Museum just click on the Quick Link posted below.
