Remembering The Doolittle Tokyo Raiders – 71st Anniversary
WARBIRD RADIO – Today (April 18th, 2013) marks the 71st anniversary of the Doolittle Tokyo raid. Arguably one of the most daring missions ever executed by the United States, the Doolittle Raiders serve today as a reminder of the cost of freedom. Less than six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, the Raiders launched sixteen B-25 bombers from the deck of the USS Hornet and bombed the heart of Tokyo. If you don’t know the story of the eighty brave men who followed Jimmy Doolittle on this mission or the over two hundred and fifty thousand Chinese people who died helping them…you should read up on it. This mission gave the allies a needed morale boost. It’s also the mission that set the tone for America’s role in WWII but overall… it’s an event everyone should know about.
Our coverage of the 71st Doolittle Tokyo Raiders Reunion in Fort Walton beach continues throughout the weekend. Thanks for tuning in…and thank a veteran today for their service.
